First woman to be appointed a federal judge in the United States. Nominated to the Juvenile Court of the District of Columbia by President Woodrow Wilson in 1918. Served until her retirement in 1934. Recognized as academically gifted, she was a pioneer in juvenile jurisprudence and suffragist.
Graduate of Marysville High School, Class of 1889. Graduate of Washington College of Law, LLB, 1913; LLM, 1914.
