NEWARK: Beatrice Vivian Dawson, 83, of Newark, formerly
of Victoria, TX, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 25, 1927 in Zanesville and was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lala (Dodson) Smitley.
Beatrice was in the restaurant industry. She had previously worked at Sea Island Resort Restaurant in South Padre Island, Tx., and the original Big Boy in Columbus.
She enjoyed flowers, knitting spending time on the beach and her pets, especially "Sweets" her cat.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dawson whom she married October 21, 1961 and passed away January 11, 2002; one brother, Jr. Smitley.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Billy Joe) Raike of Newark, Daryl (Loretta) Wilson of Quaker City, James (Patti) Wilson of Graysville, PA, and Lois Elaine Riffle of Victoria TX; four step-children, Stephen (Robin) Dawson, Carol (Jim) Wilder, Linda (Doug) McCandless and Robert (Sandra) Spoon; one brother, Dick (Helen) Smitley of Houston, TX; one sister, Gloria (Gene) Ping of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Marcelle Smitley; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Pleasant City Cemetery.
