VERNON, Texas - Lorene Hutto, 86, died Tuesday in a Vernon hospital.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sullivan Funeral Home with David A. Dickinson officiating. Burial will be in Olney, Texas, Cemetery.


Hutto was born Nov. 9, 1903, in Jayton, Texas. She and Fred C. Slator were married in 1922 in Shreveport, La. He died in 1926. She and Joseph L. Hutto were married Feb. 14, 1936, in Frederick, Okla. He died in 1944. She was a longtime resident of Vernon and a member of Central Christian Church. Shew as a graduate of Draughon's Business School in Fort Worth. She was a shorthand and typing teacher in Jayton High School. She was also a secretary for doctors and lawyers. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and civic clubs and was a member of several religious organizations before moving to Vernon.


Survivors include a daughter, Marion McCuistion of Vernon; a stepdaughter, Pauline Payne of Azle, Texas; a stepson, Joe of Burleson, Texas; a brother, Pete Harrison of Big Spring, Texas; a sister, Coolene Burch of Rio Vista, Texas; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
