Ruby Blanche (Rowland) Holt (1925-2010)

Ruby Blanche Rowland Holt was lifted up by God's angels to join our Dad in Glory on October 26, 2010. She passed peacefully at Brentwood Place in Denison, her home for the past two years. Mom lost her battle with Alzheimer's. Through it all, she continued to be loving, considerate, and happy. God knew it was her time to go and she was ready to join our Dad.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home at 401 W. Woodard St. in Denison. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel. Mark Mitchell, Mom's Pastor, will conduct her service and Jared Johnson will provide the music. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park at 5805 Texoma Parkway in Sherman.
Pallbearers will be Garry Holt, Bill Holt, Bobby Holt, Todd Holt, Eric Neidert, and David Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Cox, Dr. Tom Boothe, Dr. Tom Fletcher, Carl Gayle, and Frank Vestal.

Our mother was born January 12, 1925 in Vickery to Jesse and Florence Rowland. Mom was preceded in death by our Dad, Bill H. Holt, her parents, sisters Darlene Deuback, Ruth Martin, and her brother, Jesse Rowland.
Our Mom was a Registered Nurse for 55 years. She went to nursing school at Wilson N. Jones graduating with a B.S. in Nursing Science. Mom tells the story that she was so lucky to become a nurse, because her family was unable to pay the cost. However, due to WW II, the Nursing Cadet Corps paid her way through nursing school and she was so thankful. Without that support, the world would have missed out on one great nurse. Mom attended the first two years of school in Sherman, doing her final year of nursing school at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
She began her career at Madonna Hospital in Denison. Some of Mom's most memorable nursing career moments were at the MKT Employee's Hospital. She spent two years as a school nurse in Denison then began her tenure at Denison Memorial Hospital, later Texoma Medical Center. She retired from TMC in 1987. Later, she worked part time at One Medical as the Quality assurance RN. Mom's life was nursing. She was a teacher and mentor to many young nurses over the years.
Mom met our Dad in early 1947 and was married July 1, 1947 in Dallas at the Courthouse. They "courted" on the Interurban and took it to Dallas to be married.
Our Mom and Dad were warriors for Christ. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Denison. Mom was a true Bible Scholar and was a student of The Word. She studied the Bible faithfully and so enjoyed teaching her Bible classes.
My Mom and Dad were "world famous" for their peanut patties. They made them every year at Christmas and shipped them to their friends across the country.
More than anything else, Mom was a mother. She held us up to God everyday in prayer and kept us strong when we were weak, loving us through all of life's challenges.

Mom is survived by her sons, Garry Holt and wife Ann of El Paso, Bill Holt and wife Sandra of Denison, and Dr. Charles E. "Bobby" Holt and wife Caryla of Colorado Springs. Grandchildren are Todd Holt of Denison, Amy and her husband Eric Neidert of Denison, Leslie Holt of El Paso, Beth Holt of Las Vegas, Terry and her husband Greg Laird of Spokane, Wash., Crista and her husband Jermey Allen of Westport, Conn., Cayla Holt of Oklahoma City, and Carley Holt of Colorado Springs. Her great-grandkids are twins Jake and Kelly Neidert, and Taylor and Landry. Also surviving are her niece, Donna Criswell and husband Corky of Plano and nephew, David Martin of Denison. Our Mom's greatest friend in Christ was Patsy Vestal of Sherman. Thank you Pat, we love you.

We are so appreciative of the staff at Brentwood Place nursing home in Denison. The loving care and personal attention given to our Mom will never be forgotten. We are very appreciative of Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care of our mother. We thank Dr. Garvin for his sensitive and insightful care of Mom.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
