Elnora M. Mader, 94, longtime Keuterville area resident and retired teacher, died of a stroke Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Cottonwood.

She was born May 18, 1906, near Keuterville, the daughter of Frank and Bernadine Renneker Enneking. She attended the Timber Country School near Keuterville and then the Colton Academy. She received her lifetime teaching certificate from Lewis-Clark Normal School, now Lewis-Clark State College.

She started teaching at the Big Butte School near Winona and then at the Timber School. She then taught at the Maughmer Point School and then returned to the Timber School until it closed. She taught at the Keuterville School and finished her 37-year teaching career at Prairie Elementary School at Cottonwood in 1971.

She married Steve J. Mader on June 30, 1930, at Keuterville. They ranched 4½ miles southwest of Keuterville. He died in 1973. She continued living at the ranch until 1986, when she moved to Cottonwood.

Elnora was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church at Keuterville and also was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Mader of Cottonwood and Melvin Mader of Keuterville; one daughter, Luella McCulley of Grangeville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Hubert, Albert, Joe and William Enneking, and two sisters, Rika Enneking and Anna Goeckner.

The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Holy Cross Catholic Church at Keuterville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 Wednesday at the church by the Rev. Meinrad Schalberger. Burial will follow at the Keuterville Community Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Uhlorn Funeral Home at Cottonwood.
