"Archie Harvey Locey - A public official who exemplifies efficiency through the invention and introduction of improved methods for the transaction of official business, is Archie Harvey Locey, the popular county auditor and recorder, who was born a native son at Chico, Butte County, January 6, 1881. His grandfather, Ira H. Locey, brought the family to California. His father is Alexander C. Locey, of whom a sketch will be found on another page of this work.
"The eldest of seven children, Archie Harvey Locey was brought up in the vicinity of Chico, where he was educated in the public school, after which he attended both the Chico State Normal and Heald's Business College at San Francisco, from which latter he graduated in 1900. His first employment was as bookkeeper for the San Francisco Produce Company; then, in 1901, he entered the service of the Bank of Chico as bookkeeper, and alter was made teller in that wide-awake institution.
"Mr. Locey continued with the bank until he was elected county auditor and recorder. In 1914, he was chosen by the people at the primaries as county auditor and recorder; and he took office on January 3, 1915. Seldom if ever, has Butte County had an abler occupant in that office, and never a more conscientious one. Being a thoroughly careful business man, sincere and upright, and also a warm advocate of the most efficient and economical means of conducting business affairs, Mr. Locey has originated several methods for simplifying and more easily handling the accounts, and of more speedily and surely keeping tab on the various and many expenses of different offices, including the receipts and disbursements of the several school district.
"In San Jose, A.H. Locey was married to Miss Nora M. Pettit, a native of Iowa, who completed her education at the Chico State Normal. They are the parents of eight children: Marjorie, Alexander, Babette, Dorrance, Natalie, Eleanor, Constance and Gordon. The family is associated with the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Locey is a member of the Woodmen of the World and also belongs to Chico Parlor, No. 21, N.S.G.W. In politics he is a staunch Republican. He is a member of the State Association of County Recorders and County Auditors. As a representative citizen he holds an assured position in his native county." Sept. 29 -- Archibald Locey, former county auditor of Butte county, who took ether and died at Dixon, Cal. two days ago, while enroute to Oroville where a warrant charging embezzlement of county funds had been issued, was buried here today. The funeral was attended by county officials and business men in numbers."
