Margaret "Lou" Hicks Holland, age 87, of Marion, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 while at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County Mrs. Holland was born April 13, 1923 and was a daughter of the late William R. "Doc" Hicks and Harriett Reese Hicks. She was a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church. She taught a Sunday school class for 50 years at Yancey Street Baptist Church and Catawba Heights Baptist Church and she was also a member of the choir. Mrs. Holland was a homemaker and loving wife. Everybody loved her and she never met a stranger. She was a dedicated Christian and a soloist who sang at many special church singings.
Saddened by the loss of Mrs. Holland are her husband of sixty-four years, Clarence Holland, of the home; brother, Marion M. Hicks and wife Mildred of Raleigh and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. James Walker officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will be in McDowell Memorial Park.
