Mrs. Rachel Smith, who just a week ago was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. J.R. Foster, herself succumbed to her sufferings at the home of her nephew, Oscar Foster, of Carey's Run, Sunday night at 10:30.
Mrs. Smith had been bedfast but five days and for several days had remained in a comatose state not recognizing relatives and friends gathered at her bedside. Death was due in a general breakdown and hemorrhage of the brain, the sudden and tragic end of her sister, it is thought, having aggravated her condition.
Mrs. Smith was 84 years of age and born within 300 years from the home where she died. She was a daughter of the late Ora Crane (sic). Her husband, the late Nat Smith, died thirteen years earlier. Two children born to them died in infancy.
Mrs. Smith was a good and noble woman, loved and respected by all who knew her. She is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Susan Noel, of New Lexington, O., and Mrs. Melissa Heatly (sp?) of this city. Many nephews and nieces also mourn her death. The funeral will take place from the home of J.R. Foster Tuesday at 2 o'clock. Rev. J.W. Carroll will officiate. Burial in the Carey's Run cemetery.
