Samuel Smith was born in February 1836 in Troop County, Georgia and died in Branchville, Milam County, Texas in Oct. 1905. He served the Confederacy from July 20, 1863 until the end of the war in 1865 in Sgt. Jefferson's Company, 17th Battalion Georgia Infantry (State Guards).

Sam first married Francis Hawkins (b.1840 GA)(name given to me by her granddaughter Lina Rose Alford) and had two children: Albert b.1862 GA and Ida Mae b.1864 GA. Frances died in 1869.

He married Mary S. (b.20 Jun 1840 GA) and they had four children: Evah b. 1 Sep 1870; Offa b. 1874 Milam Co., TX; Olan, b.1877 Milam Co., TX and Perl, b. Oct 1879 Milam County, TX.

Sam then married Molcia Elizabeth Kemp and they had four children: Oscar Frank b.27 Oct 1889; Katie Mae b.10 Apr 1892; John Fort b.26 Oct 1894; Emma b.22 Dec 1897.
