Ardmore — She saw the road was getting rough, the hills hard to climb. He gently closed her loving eyes, and whispered, "Peace be thine." The weary hours, days of pain and sleepless nights are past. The ever patient, worn-out frame, has found sweet peace at last.
Family and friends will celebrate the life of Esther Humdy Godwin Friday, October 29, 2010, at 11 a.m., at McLish Avenue Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Gene Autry. Ben Bailey is officiant. She left this world of sorrows Friday, October 22, 2010, from Mercy Memorial Hospital. She was 68 years and 25 days old.
Esther Mae of Springer, Oklahoma, was born September 28, 1942, in Ardmore to Thomas and Cora Humdy. She received her formal education at Dunbar and Ardmore Douglass High School. Esther united with East Main Church of Christ at an early age and later with McLish Church of Christ where she served faithfully until her health no longer permitted. She then listened to sermons on DVDs.
Esther married I.G. Godwin in Ardmore. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved life and lived life to the fullest. Known as Abby by her immediate family, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and entertaining. Her well manicured and immaculate home proclaims skills of an articulate homemaker! Abby always gave and received an abundance of love and joy from family and friends.
Those left to miss her and forever cherish those precious memories are her husband, I.G. of the home; two sons, Ricky and Ronnie Dowdy, Ardmore; a best friend, her daughter, Brenda Anderson and son-in-law, Steve Anderson, Ardmore; two sisters, Lou Ella Pickens, Ardmore and Linda Davis, Kansas City. Mo.; two brothers, Thomas Humdy Jr., Dallas and Guy Humdy, Ardmore; three brothers-in-law, Edgar Godwin, Milo, Clay Paul Burleson, Seattle, Washington and Eddie Burleson, Oklahoma City; seven sisters-in-law, Sandra Pickens and Brenda Gail Burleson, Seattle, Washington, Beverly and brother-in-law, Charles Hurbert, Oklahoma City, Francis Burleson, Sharon Burleson, Florence Godwin and Sharron Burleson, each of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Brandi Vowell, Ricky Dowdy Jr., Shana Dowdy, Craig Anderson, Nikki Roberts, Cozell Dowdy and Christopher Dowdy; nine great-grandchildren; and four special little girls, Brooklyn, Reney, Hope and Faith; and her youngest great-grandson, Ja'Quandré Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
