My father, William "Bill" Kerney Hosey, was born September 15, 1922 in Fayetteville, AL to William "Ocie" & Lula Frances Varner Hosey. He was the oldest living child after my grandparents lost a baby in childbirth that they named Katie. She was named after her grandmother, Mary Katherine Litaker Hosey.

My father was raised on a farm in Fayetteville and had to quit school when he was in about the 9th grade. This was typical of children who were raised on farms at that time.

My grandparents moved from their farm in Fayetteville to Gantts Quarry (outside of Sylacauga) when my dad was about 17 years of age. He worked numerous jobs as a laborer including driving heavy equipment for the quarry, which was called Alabama Marble Company at that time. He worked for the marble company for a few years and then owned a landscaping business for a few years.

He married Christine Wood Aug 29, 1942 at the First Church of God in Sylacauga, Talladega Co., AL.

In 1957, when he was 34 years of age, his sister Thelma, who was living in Kermit, TX pursuaded him to move the family there and he could work in the oil fields, which was a booming industry at the time. Mother quit her job at Avondale Mills and we made the move. I was one year old and my younger brother, Ron, was born in Kermit in 1958. In 1961, the family took a vacation to Alabama. My mother decided that she was going to stay in Alabama, so dad went back to Texas to give notice at his job and settle up other business and he returned to Alabama. This was the beginning of their marital problems.

My father and mother decided to file for a divorce by 1963. My father married Bobbie Jean Owens Hamilton not long after the divorce. My father did go to court to get custody of my younger brother and I and the court awarded him with visits for one weekend each month. However, this did not last but only two or three visits and then the visits were discontinued on a mutual agreement. His second marriage lasted only a few years as he died at an early age of 45 years.

As I never really knew my father, I believe that he was a good man.
