Susan Jane Lucas was born in Tippacanoe County, Ind. July 6, 1859. In the autumn of 1865 she moved to Muscatine, Iowa, with her parents. In 1872, the family moved to Cresco. Here she was united in marriage to George M. Bly on the 16th day of November, 1881. Thursday forenoon, January 31, at 11:04 with scarcely a moments warning, the Angel of death called her. The funeral services conducted by Rev. Gammons were held at the M.E. church Saturday afternoon and were largely attended. The quartet composed of Mrs. Moon, Mrs. Scripture and Mesers Patterson and Hatter rendered beautiful music.
Five children, together with her aged parents and broken hearted husband, survive her. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother and a kind neighbor.
