Name: M. S. Bennett (Per Bureau of Land Management Records Michael Sprague Bennett purchased land in Talladega Co., AL)
Michael S. Bennett was named in his father Benjamin (nmn) Bennett's will dated 1825, probated 1826, Perry Co.,AL; Michael and his 4 siblings were in the care of their mother Susanna Watters Bennett until her death after the 1830 census. Susan Bennett with 5 minor children were enumerated in the 1830 census at Perry Co., AL. After Susanna Bennett's death about 1831, the 5 minor children were put into the care of their uncle William Watters per the Orphans Court records of Perry County, AL by 1831. The oldest daughter Nancy W. of Benjamin and Susanna married Martin Mercer Buckley in 1831. As each reached age of majority he or she inherited the money which their father Benjamin Bennett bequeathed to them in his will. Orphan Court records show that each male child by his wife Susanna/Susan Watters Bennett - Michael and Benjamin, Jr. - received upwards of $700.00; each female by his wife Susanna/Susan Watters Bennett received upwards of $600.00. Benjamin had 5 children with his first wife Ann Reed/Reid whom he married in 1801 at Oglethorpe Co., GA; Ann died about 1810. Benjamin Bennett then married Susanna Watters of Oglethorpe Co., GA, Dec. 1811. Not sure when they moved to area that would become Alabama.
The children Benjamin Bennett had by his lst wife Anna Reid/Reed also inherited a share of their father Benjamin's estate minus $100.00 per each one. Benjamin stated in his will that the children with his first wife had inherited money from their other grandfather so he was reducing the amount each received from him by that $100.00 amount.
