Her father was John Sunman and that her mother was named Eleanor Waud. John Sunman's parents would be John and Hannah (Pearson) Sunman. Eleanor's parents would be George and Eleanor (Bickers) Waud. Rachel would have a brother Richard, born 1815 who also came to Adams Township, Ripley County, Indiana and is buried in the Baptist Cemetery there. Eleanor Bickers would be the daughter of John Bickers. The first John Sunman would be the son of Richard Sunman, born about 1720 in Yorkshire, England.

Rachel's will reads as follows (transcribed from a copy of the original handwritten document of July 7, 1888).

I Rachel Terry, do make this my last will, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
Item 1. I direct that at my death there shall first be paid out of my personal estate other than that part of the same named in items two and three here of, all my just debts and funeral expenses.
Item 2. I give and bequeath to my daughter Laura Duley, my gold locket; to my daughter Ellen Terry, my silver butter knife; to my daughter, Ruth Tucker, my clock; to my daughter, Mary Vanter, my set of silver tea spoons; and to my daughter, Isabella Bailey, my gold spectacles.
Item 3. My clothes, beds and bed clothes I give and bequeath to such of my daughters as may be living at my death, they to divide the same among themselves as they may see fit.
Item 4. Such of my personal estate as may remain after complying with items two and three of this will, money, bonds and notes not included, my executor shall sell in such a manner as he deems best.
Item 5. After complying with the first three items of this will and paying all the expenses incident to settling my estate, I direct that such of my personal estate as may remain shall be desposed of as follows viz:
1st. There shall be paid first of all to the children of my daughter, Hannah Powell, five hundred dollars, they to share equally; but if any of said children be dead leaving issue then such issue shall take the part that would have gone to said deceased child if living.
2nd. After paying the five hundred dollars above named there shall be paid to my three sons, Ralph W Terry, William P Terry and Oliver W Terry, three hundred dollars, they to share equally; but if any of said sons be dead, leaving issue then such issue shall take the part that would have gone to said deceased son if living. Should
there be less than three hundred dollars to divide among my three sons herein named, whatever sum is divided shall be divided equally.
3rd. Such of my personal estate as may remain after paying the five hundred and the three hundred dollars herein named, if any, shall be divided equally among my daughters, viz, Laura Duley, Ellen B Terry, Ruth C Tucker, Mary Vautier and Isabella Bailey; should any of said daughters be dead leaving issue, such issue shall take the share that would have gone to such daughter if living.
