Verdie May Hetrick, a resident of South Bethlehem for many years, died Wednesday morning, October 10, 1945, at the family home in South Bethlehem.

Miss Hetrick, a daughter of the late David L and Mary V Miller Hetrick, was born August 1, 1891 in Mahoning Township, Armstrong County. When a small child, her family moved to South Bethlehem, where she attended the public schools, and grew to your womanhood. Later she went to Washington, D. C. and enrolled in the school of nursing in the Sibley Memorial Hospital and was graduated from that school in 1918.

Her life was devoted to her chosen profession and into the ministry of the sick she put her entire self, forgetting her own bodily ailments. She continued to serve in this profession faithfully until a year before her illness, when she resigned to accept less strenuous work. She then became allied with the Scott's Hotel for Government women employees in Washington. She served this institution for one year as house manager.

Miss Hetrick's health was then broken and she came to her childhood home in South Bethlehem where she happily spent the last year of her life.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of New Bethlehem. She leaves one brother, Wm. J. Hetrick, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Hetrick Hamm, a nephew, James Hamm, S1/c, now with the U S Navy in Leyte, and a niece, Mary Ethel Hamm, all of South Bethlehem. A brother, Walter E Hetrick, died October 9, 1944.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the family home in South Bethlehem, and were in charge of her pastor, the Reverend James L. Bensinger of the New Bethlehem Methodist Church.

Burial was made in the family plot in the New Bethlehem cemetery under the direction of W. S. Vorous.
