Born October 3, 1797, Thomas C. Reed was the first boy (and the second person) born in Middletown (Lemon Township). His birthplace was a farm on Yankee Road, just south of Dicks Creek. He helped organize the Butler County Fair and served as the fair board's president. As a young man, he split logs, burned bricks, and built flatboats on which he carried flour from the Dickey Mill at Amanda to New Orleans.
