Esther Jane was the daughter of Ephraim and Elizabeth Ann Goodwin/Goodman Bare. She was one of three children, the others being Edward, who resides on the old Homestead; and Emma, wife of Thomas Faust, of Pennsylvania. Jane married William Swerlein on February 11, 1875 in Wyandot County and they had William, Ella, Ethel, Delpha, Chalmer, and Rowena. Jane and her husband were members of the Evangelical Church.
