At his residence in New Holstein, on Friday, May 15th, 1874, Ernest Paul Christian Paulsen, aged 76 years 1 month and 18 days.
The deceased was born at the city of Heide, Duchy of Holstein, Europe, March 28th, 1798, and received a mercantile education at Altona, in said Duchy, and for several years was engaged in mercantile pursuits in Belgium and France. He was married in 1825, and the following year succeeded his father in an office, similar to those of County Clerk and Register of Deeds which he held till he emigrated to the United States in 1849, where he selected New Holstein, in this county, as his home. He was accompanied by his wife and five children—his two oldest boys, William and August having preceded him to New Holstein in 1848. His wife and three of the five children who came with him died here and of his family only four now remain, viz: William, August, Minna (Mrs. Holtz) and Adolph.
