She was born on May 22, 1907 in Fannin County, daughter of the late Samuel N. and Delia Sisson Higdon. She was a homemaker and a member of Curryville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Walter Cornwell, 1963; three children, Georgia Cornwell, Nita Marie Cornwell, and Audrey Mae Cornwell; and sisters and brothers, Ruby Curtis, Willie Higdon, Efford Higdon, Samuel D. Higdon, Albert Higdon, and Samuel Higdon Jr.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille (Lucy) and the Rev. J. E. Glass of Calhoun, Thelma and Johnny Calloway of Oakman, Helen C. Dunaway of the Rosedale community, and Ms. Lanette Busby of Dalton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry W. and Evelyn Cornwell of Calhoun and George and Shirley Cornwell of the Union Grove community; a sister, Eva Chancey of Cherry Log; a brother, Paul Higdon of Blue Ridge; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Thursday, March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brann & Sons Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ray Bearden and G. W. Shaw officiating. Singing was arranged by Mable Harris, and grandsons were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of Sugar Valley Lodge No. 733 F & AM. Interment was in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.
