Spc. Steven L. Dupont, 20, of Lafayette, La., died Oct. 24 at Rangrizan, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany. He enlisted in the United States Army in July of 2008 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Community and an active member of the church youth group. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a wonderful son and brother. Survivors include his parents, Charles N. Dupont and Brenda Broussard Dupont of Milton, one brother, Robert Owen Dupont of Milton, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Broussard of Jennings. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Dupont of Roanoke, and his cousin, Traci Juneau.
