Russell Tomlinson was a Union Soldier in Company K 5th Vermont Infantry Regiment.

Mr. Tomlinson served in the battled of Melvin Hill, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, the Wilderness and numerous others. He was wounded in a battle new Richmond, Va., and fell from his horse. He was carried to a Confederate hospital and upon his recovery was transferred to Libby prison, where he was held until exchanged some months later.

He as the son of Samuel C. Tomlinson and Percia Streeter.

He was the husband of Electa (Kenyon) Tomlinson (1847-1928).

GRAND ARMY VET HEARS LAST CALL

Once again the Great Commander has called the roll of the Grand Army of the Republic and today, Comrade Russell Tomlinson, Carlyle hotel, answered "Here!"

The aged veteran, 93, died today following a stroke suffered about a week ago. He had been unconscious for several days and was not even able to register for the annual encampment of the Department of Washington and Alaska which closed its session here Wednesday. He was senior vice commander of Sedgwick post.

During the patriotic visitation to the schools during May, Comrade Tomlinson was one of those who was in the small group to give patriotic talks. Since the death of Comrade Perry about two months ago, who lived across the hall from Mr. Tomlinson in the hotel, the aged veteran has declined rapidly in health.

He served during the entire Civil war, being a private in Company I of the 5th Vermont infantry. He had lived in Spokane 27 years and is survived by two granddaughters Mrs. Fleet Allen of Spokane and Mrs. Nell Snow, and a great-grandson, Jay Snow of Seattle. The body is at Hazen & Jaeger's.
