John Armistead

According to the 1850 census he was born in "Va". Parents are unknown. Married 1) Keziah Anderson before 1800 and 2) Mrs. Amy (Powell) Owen in 1818. Lived in Oglethorpe Co., GA (1800, 1810 censuses and 1818 marriage record), Greene Co., GA (1820 census) and Walton Co., GA. (1830 and 1850 census). Following the death of his second wife Amy in 1850, he lived with his son James Anderson Armistead in Newton County during the last years of his life.
Had total of 14 children by his two wives, but only 11 were still alive at the time of his death.
He served as a "private" during the War of 1812 from Oglethorpe county, Georgia in Capt. Burwell Pope's company attached to Lt. Col. Jetright Thomas' 2d Georgia militia. He received bounty land based on this service.
His will had to be adjudicated by the Supreme Court of Georgia.
