Edith Isabel Ellch peacefully passed away on October 15, 2010 at the age of 91 at her daughter's home in Arizona.
She was surrounded by four of her six daughters when the Lord took her home.
She was looking forward to being united with her husband Joseph (Eddie) Ellch who passed away at the young age of 56. He was her high school sweetheart and they shared 35 wonderful years together and had 9 children.
Edith's childhood dream was to open an orphanage. She was the most loving, unselfish, beautiful person who spent her life helping others. In many ways she accomplished her dream with her nine children, 28 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Her life was devoted to loving them all. She was a blessing to all who met her and a beautiful role model for all. Her children feel unique and privileged to be part of her legacy.
Edith was born in Emily, Minnesota and September 10, 1919. She was the daughter of James and Ella Craig. She grew up in NW Indiana and graduated from Ross Township School district. She attended business school and worked at the Lake County courthouse. Later in life, she was employed at U.S. Steel from where she retired.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Ellch and her son Michael Ellch.
She is survived by her children, Sharon (Jerry) Botkin of Crown Point, IN, Edward J (Mickey) Ellch of Hobart, IN, Elaine (Joe) Bolanowski of Henderson, NV, Dr. Laura (Bill) Cohen of Newport Beach, CA, Gary (Debbie) Ellch of DeMotte, IN, Colleen Appleby of Queen Creek, AZ, Deborah White of Queen Creek, AZ and Tammy (Robert) McCamy of Atlanta, GA: 28 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
She has left leaving a message of love to all. A time of sharing with the family will be held Sunday, October 24th, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN with a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. Private interment will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN.
