"Alexander R. "Al" LaFaye, 101, passed away on October 21, 2010. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 5, 1909 and lived in New Orleans and Tampa before moving to Jacksonville in 1930. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Verne A. LaFaye, and his oldest son, Reginald LaFaye.
Survivors include his son, Al (Mary) LaFaye and daughters, Della Moss and Georgia (Lee) Norton, grandchildren, Mike LaFaye, Donna LaFaye Allworth, Marcie Jones, Justin Chamberlain and Joel Chamberlain. He is also survived by several nephews, a niece and six great grandchildren.
Al retired from Sears and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He loved quail hunting and was an avid Gator football fan.
All who knew Al will miss his zest for life, sense of humor and willingness to help others, and love of family and dear friends.
The family will receive friends, Friday, November 5, 2010 from 6-8pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4114 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. www.hgmandarin.com (904)288-0025."
