Cumby, Hopkins Co., Texas, Aug 27 -- Mrs. Malda [d cert: Melda] McKinney died this week at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. L. Harbison, in Lubbock. She was born in what was Titus County (now Franklin County) Feb. 16, 1855 [d cert: 14 Feb 1853]. Moving to this section of Texas with her parents in 1870, she has resided continuously around and in this place until a few years ago, when she went to Dallas to reside with her daughter. With her daughter's family, she moved to Lubbock some three months ago. She is survived by by her daughter with whom she made her home and a son, Joe Oliver of Lamesa, Texas; two brothers, Will Rash of Dallas and Luke Rash of Terrell, both of whom attended her funeral. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev M L Talley, with burial in Cumby Cemetery. As a mark of respect, business houses of all kinds closed their doors during her funeral.

On or about the 17th of July of 1890, Malda married William Thomas "Will or Bill" McKinney in Hopkins County, Texas. Will was the son of Thomas Andrew Jackson McKinney and Lucy Thayer Sheppard. He was born on the 19th of November of 1861 in Arkansas. He was shot to death by Oliver "Ollie" E. Nunn on the 28th of September of 1892 in Ardmore, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma).
