She was born on May 23, 1909, in Waldorf, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Jaenike) Bluhm. She moved to the Carlisle area as a young child and later to Fergus Falls. As a young girl she worked with her mother taking in laundry and ironing.
On Jan. 5, 1938 she married Frank Madden. They operated a gas station in Fergus Falls. In 1960, she went to work at Broen Memorial Home where she was employed until her retirement in 1973. After her husband died in 1990, she moved to St. Paul to live with her daughter, Cherie. On Feb. 10, 1993, she moved to Battle Lake to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, where she remained until her death.
