America Jane George was born February 4, 1849, five miles south of Calhoun, Mo. She died at her home in Calhoun, Missouri, February 28, 1923, being 74 years and 24 days of age. She had been a resident of Calhoun for 32 years. She was united in marriage to R. M. Skaggs July 15, 1913. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, three sisters - Mrs. O. B. Garner, Bonham, Texas; Mrs. G. W. Gamby and Mrs. Julia Carter, Paris, Texas; also two brothers, W. G. George, Paris, Tex., and J. H. George and little nephew, J. H. George, Jr., of Calhoun. She united with Mt. Olivet Baptist church when just a young girl, and transferred her membership to the Calhoun Baptist church in 1891. Long and faithful had been her service for her Master. Gentleness, humility, service are the words that describe her character. Being a blessing to her home, her church, to the community. All say surely she was a good woman, full of faith, good works and led of the spirit. She never murmured.
