Husband of Mary Catherine (Liston) Eastman (1844-1909). Son of Norman Fayette Eastman and Cornelia Ann (Pratt) Eastman. John was a Sergeant in the Civil War in the 23rd Iowa Infantry, Co. D. He enlisted at Corydon, Iowa in July, 1862 at age 19 as a 6th Corporal and was promoted four times, ending in the rank of Sgt. He was musterd out on July 26, 1865 in Texas. John was a member of the GAR.
