Cpl. Pershing Pate Killed in Action
Service Number 18010768
Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Pate of Timpson received a telegram last Monday from the War Department, stating that their son, Cpl. Pershing Pate, 25, was killed in action on June 8, in France.
Cpl. Pate, with the 38th Infantry, Co. I., volunteered on June 2, 1940. He took his basic training at Fort Sam Houston. From there he went to Camp McCoy, Wis., and from Wisconsin he was sent to New York and overseas in 1942.
He was with the invasion forces going into France on June 6 and was killed two days later.
Before going into the service, Cpl. Pate worked with his father on his farm near Timpson.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie B. Pate, Timpson; four brothers, Staff Sgt. Arvel Pate, Fort Dix, N,J.; Dalton Pate, R.C. Pate, William Aden Pate, Timpson; five sisters, Mrs. John E. Green, Misses, Laverne, Lamurel and Orene Pate, Timpson, Mrs. Dewey Darnell, Jackson.

Cpl. Pershing Pate was killed in action on June 9, 1944 when his company L attacked the strongpoint of the German defensive line east of the town Trevieres Normandy, close to Aures River.
