BARTON BENGE
Barton Benge, son of David and Nancy Benge, was born in Clay county, Kentucky, on January 10, 1848, and departed this life at his home near Lucas, Iowa, on April 11, 1937, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 1 day. He was stricken with pneumonia on April 5 and declined until death came.
When a young man he came to Iowa, locating near Indianola. He was married to Celia A. Haworth on May 29, 1873, and soon afterward moved to Lucas county and had since lived on a farm near Lucas.
Mr. Benge was well and favorably known. He possessed a genial disposition and was a splendid citizen and neighbor. He was never known to complain, although at times his sufferings were intense.
Surviving him are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lula Gwinn, of Lucas, and two sons, Fred Benge, of near Lucas, and John Benge, at home. There are also six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Archie E. Beals, of Russell, were held at the Lucas Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, and burial was in the Goshen cemetery.
