Frank R. Bender, 85, of Sherman, formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at his home. He was born March 10, 1918, in Springfield, the son of Frank Xavier and Christine Sikrich Bender. He married Mary "Eleanor" Nation in 1938; she died in 2001.
Mr. Bender retired from Allis-Chalmers as a design engineer in 1979 after 44 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and a volunteer hunter's safety instructor for the state of Illinois.
Survivors: two sons, Steven Frank and Frank Allan Bender, both of Sherman.
Funeral Mass: St. John Vianney Church, Sherman, Monsignor Eugene Costa officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
