DEAN MATSON was born on October 15th, 1940 in Bend, Oregon, the son of the late Jim and Virginia (Leeds) Matson. Dean grew up and received his education in Bend and graduated from Bend Union High School in 1959.
Dean served in the United States Army from 1959 until he received his honorable discharge in 1962.

He married Barbara Ann Niermann on March 2, 1963 in Bend and they celebrated over forty seven years of marriage together. After they were married they made their home in Bend where they resided until 1969 when they moved to Cornelius where they have lived for 41 years.

Dean owned and operated the Forest Grove Body Shop for twenty five years. He volunteered for the City of Cornelius as a City Council Member for eight years, a founder of Cornelius Kids Sports Association and construction of baseball fields at Harleman Park for the Cornelius youth. Dean was a very active member of the Forest Grove Lion's Club for over twenty-five years earning Lion of the Year twice and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services. He also served as chairman of the Loyal Lutheran Russian Mission and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cornelius.
Dean loved to watch his grandchildren's activities, barbeque for family and friends, brew homemade beer and wine, hunt and fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Virginia Matson.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Matson of Cornelius and by his children and their spouses, Kimberly and Scott Trine of Aloha, Ken and Monique Matson of Gaston, Kristine and Michael Langley of Rainier, and Kathryn Matson of Cornelius. Also surviving are grandchildren; Kyle Matson, Michelle and Megan Trine, Joe and Brielle Matson, Ethan, Adam and Merritt Langley. He is also survived by his brothers and a sister-in-law; Allen and his wife Eleanor Matson of Centralia, Washington, James Matson of Springfield and by his sisters and a brother in law; Peggy Grady of Las Vegas, Nevada and Sharron Rosengarth and her husband, Tony, of Bend, Oregon.
