Married three times: (1) Anna M Jessup 10 Mar 1841, d 3 Apr 1829; (2) Susan Fox 19 Mar 1850 at Rising Sun IN, d 8 Jul 1868; (3) Lucy A Rhoades 1 Apr 1874, Andrew Co MO. Moved to Atchison Co 1877. Member of masonic fraternity for 40 years. Funeral at Christian Church, Rock Port MO, buried Green Hill Cemetery by North Star Lodge AF&AM of Rock Port. Additional information in obituary. He was referred to as an "elder," but no explanation was given.
Mr. Gary was born near Rushford, Alleghany county, N.Y., Nov. 19, 1820. On arriving at early manhood he left his native state, settling in Indiana. There he began life as a school teacher. He was thrice married. He was first married to Miss Anna M. Jseeup, March 18, 1841. Her death occurred April 3, 1849. He was married to Miss Susan Fox, March 19, 1850, at Rising Sun, Ind. She died July 8, 1868. He was married to his present afflicted widow April 1, 1874. Her name was Lucy A. Rhoades. At the time of this event Mr. Gary was a citizen of Andrew County, Mo., but became a citizen of this county during the year 1877, and remained among us up to the time of his death....His funeral took place at the Christian church in this city on Monday morning at 10 o'clock, Dr. H. E. Dawson officiating. His remains were laid to rest in Green Hill Cemetery by North Star Lodge AF & AM of Rock Port...
