Mrs Ellen C. Ames Dead at Age of 81
Williamsburg, Jan 17 – Mrs Ellen (Cooney) Ames, 81, widow of Oakley Ames, died at her home at Haydenville this morning after a long illness. She was born in Ireland and at the age of 16 came to Haydenville. She married Oakley Ames in 1883. He died in 1910. Mrs Ames has spent the past 65 years in Haydenville. She was a member of St Mary’s church.
She leaves three sons, William Ames of Boston, Albert and Selectman Oakley Ames of Haydenville; a stepdaughter Mrs Mary O’Connell of Springfield; and three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs Hannah O’Donnell of Northampton, Mrs Sorenson of Australia and Sister Margaret Mary of Paris, France; and three brothers, Owen Cooney of Washington, D.C., Edward and William Cooney of Ireland. The funeral will be hed at the hoe Wednesday morning at 8.30, followed by a solemn high requiem mass at St Mary’s church at 9. Rev John J. Mongovan will officiate.
