Lavada Nadine Appel 80, managed military exchanges
Lavada Nadine Appel, who managed the Army Air Force Exchange Service at Fort Meade and Fort Myer, Va., died Thursday of cancer at Crofton Convalescent Center. She was 80 and lived in Odenton .
From 1948 until retiring in 1970, Mrs. Appel had worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service.
The former Lavada Michael, who was born in Powell, Mo., married William Daniel Appel, a career Army enlisted man, in 1936. Mr. Appel died in 1978.
She enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in the Ozarks and was a member of the Odenton Historical Society.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 1419 Odenton Road, Odenton .
She is survived by a daughter, Donna A. Donaldson of Odenton ; a brother, Robert Michael of Pierce City, Mo.; five sisters, Pauline Nodine and Dema Brizendine, both of Anderson, Ind., Audrey Birkes and Vaudell Lawrence, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Betty Jo Wrobleski of Pierce City; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lavada Nadine Michael Appel, 80, of Odenton, died Feb. 11 at the Crofton Convalescent Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Appel was born in Powell, Mo.,,and raised on the family farm in the Ozark "Mountains of southwest Missouri. She married her childhood sweetheart, William Daniel Appel, m 1936 and lived in Maxwell, Ind., until the middle of World War II, when her husband enlisted in the Army The family was stationed in various locations until settling in Odenton in 1955. Master Sgt. Appel died in 1978.

Mrs Appel was a member of the Odenton Heritage Society and enjoyed storytelling, cooking, sewing, reading, bowling and visiting family.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Appel Donaldson of Odenton; five sisters, Pauline Nodine and Dema Brizendine of Anderson, Ind Audrey Birkes and Vaudell Lawrence of Kansas City, Mo., and Betty Jo Wrobleski of Pierce City, Mo.; one brother, Robert Michael of Pierce City; three grandchildren;and two great-grandchildren She was the sister of the late Theodore Michael.
A viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Monday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills/ Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Feb 16 at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Odenton, with burial in the church cemetery, Memorial contributions may be made to Epiphany Church for the renovation of the World War I Chapel, 1419 Odenton Road, Odenton, MD 21113.
