Born May 31, 1928 in Attleboro, Mass., Ronald was the son of the late Charles and Lillian (Sutton) Cornell. Mr. Cornell proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer during the Korean War. A long time resident of Meriden and formerly of Key Largo, Fla., he was employed as a master toolmaker his entire life making specialized parts for aircrafts. Ronald retired from Quality Engineering in Wallingford. Upon his retirement he spent his winters in Florida and his summers on Cape Cod. Ron was an active member of the Civic Club and the VFW in Key Largo. He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially vacationing for more than 25 years at Camp Dennen on the Cape. Ron also appreciated nature and had a great love for animals especially dogs.
Ronald is survived by his five children, Ronald Cornell, Jr. and his wife, Ellen, of Meriden, Karen C. Stigliano and her husband, Paul, of North Haven, John Cornell and his wife, Lisa, of Meriden, Christopher Cornell, of New Jersey, and Paula Meister and her husband, Robert, of Cheshire; 12 grandchildren, Stephen, Kimberly, Kevin, Jaimie, Jacqueline, Jennifer and Jessica Cornell, Paul C. Stigliano and Lauren, Erica, Alan and Matthew Meister; a brother, Duncan Cornell, of Oceanside, N.Y.; and a sister, Marge Casey, of Vista, Calif. He was predeceased by three brothers, Norman, Walter, and Charles.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, Jan. 29 from 12 noon until 2 p.m., at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. A memorial service conducted by his family will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
