Born Jens Aasta Andersen in Oslo, Norway, 8 Nov 1849 (death cert reported as 11 Nov 1851), to Anders Jensen and Inger Maria Jensdatter.
Arrived in Quebec on the ship Austrian 16 Nov 1868, travelling alone. Made his way to Cambridge MA, and adopted the anglicized name John Edward Anderson.
Married Swedish immigrant Louise Hellgren 20 Jan 1872.
Moved to Chicago approx 1883 where he died in 1928.
