Immigrated in the early 1880's from Tilset, East Prussia to the United States - via Canada and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1888-89 and then to the Yelm Prairie a few years later, where they operated a grist mill and farm between the towns of Yelm and Rainier.
After his first wife Maria died, August sold his 400 acre farm to his daughter Linda (Drabe) Lukens and her husband and then moved to Seattle where he remarried to Mrs. Josephine (maiden name unknown) Lussemann and then passed away in 1932.
