Ellen served as a Missionary to the Cherokee Indian children at the Brainerd Mission
School in Georgia for 25 years, and followed the tribe west to OK when they were
forced out of their ancestral territory and into a Reservation in OK. 1838-40. She paved the way for other single females to become teachers, helping the Cherokee to assimilate into
the world of white education and Christian values.
