He was born in the Fordtown community in Sullivan County and had lived there prior to moving to Waynetown 32 years ago.
Survivors include a brother, Hugh Cornwell of Fordtown; a sister, Mrs. M. M. Chase of Kingsport, and several nieces and nephews.
The body will be returned to Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
Arrangements will be announced later.

Funeral for Richard T. Cornwell, who died in Waynetown, Ind., Thursday morning at the age of 60, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fordtown Baptist Church.
Rev. Dallas Hardin and Rev. L. J. Harris will conduct the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body was brought to Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport Friday evening and will remain there until time for the funeral.
