Mrs. Olive V. Armstrong, 85, of Payne Marsh Road, Berkshire, N.Y., died April 14, 1988, at Cortland (N.Y) Memorial Hospital where she had a patient since April 9.

She was born Aug. 22, 1902, in Candor, the daughter of Porter and Libby Allen Shrauger, and was the widow of William Armstrong who died in 1967.

I her early years Mrs. Armstrong was employed with Endicott Johnson Corp. in Owego and was also a telephone operator in Berkshire. She was a member of Richford and Berkshire Senior Citizens and Paramont Rebekah Lodge 464 in Richford.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ruby VanSusan, Mrs. Hazel VanSusan and Mrs. Ethel Smith, all of Berkshire, and Mrs. Phyllis Alexander of Newark Valley; five sons, Porter of Owego, Allen of Roseburg, Ore., Harold of Richford, Howard of Williamson and Charles of Berkshire; a brother Walter Shrauger of Owego; a sister, Mrs. Lena Jones of Endicott; 40 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Priest and Pauline Armstrong, and a son, William Armstrong Jr.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, with the Rev. Joseph Timlin, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Berkshire officiating. Interment will follow in Caroline Grove Cemetery.
