She was born in Germany to Hans Lorenz Lorenzen and Anna Petersen. Amanda and her parents came in this country from Prussia on the ship Dania on 31 Mar 1890 in New York, New York.
Amanda married John August Frederick Ohl on 18 Jan 1906. John worked building the railroad and they lived in several cities in Iowa. These include LeClaire, Davenport, Blue Grass, Kalona, and Washington.
John and Amanda had five children.
1.) John August Edward Ohl 1906 – 1993
2.) Elvin Iver Carl Ohl 1908 – 1950
3.) Glenn Henry Christian Elmer Ohl 1909 – 1992
4.) Anita Marcella Dorothy Ohl 1911 –
5.) Leslie Arthur William Ohl 1916 – 1972
They divorced after many years of abuse. The Davenport Democrat cited cruelty as the primary cause of the divorce.
Amanda later married Grant Anderson on 04 Jun 1930. Five years later she died. Her death certificate lists carcinoma of the uterus as the cause.
Amanda is buried beside her mother who was Anna Ott (wife of Edward) and her aunt Anita in the Fairmount Cemetery.
