Francis Dawson Price was born in 1776 in All Saints Township, Georgetown County, South Carolina. This area is now known as Little River, Horry County, South Carolina. . He became a landowner in this area and before 1798, married the girl from the next-door plantation, Mary Vaught.

Francis moved his family to Brunswick County, North Carolina and in 1817 purchased 117 acres for a cost of 50 shillings per hundred acres. He and his descendents increased these holding to thousands of acres but by the 1950's these lands started to slip away until today very little of the lands remain in the family. Although he had a large farm, I am proud to say that neither he nor any of his male descendants owned a slave!

In 1820, Francis lived in Brunswick County with his wife, two sons and five daughters. Of these children I can only name two for sure and that is Francis Dawson Price, Jr. and Lydia Price Wescott.

Francis, Sr, died before May 29, 1843. It is not known where he is buried but I believe he was buried in the Price Family Cemetery.
