According to Reuben's grandson Loman Bond, old man Lindsey of Carroll County was with Reuben when he died.
According to Mr Lindsey, Reuben had been wounded, treated, recovered and returned to his unit, got cold and wet from rain and sleet, took the fever and died of pneumonia at a place far from home.
