Civil War veteran: He enlisted on July 24, 1862 as a Private and on September 1, 1862 he was mustered in to Company C, 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery.
He was promoted to Corporal on March 13, 1863, to Sergeant on August 2, 1863, to Commisary Sergeant on September 11, 1863, to 2nd Lieutenant on December 28, 1863 and to 1st Lieutenant on December 2, 1864.
He was listed as wounded at Fisher's Hill, Virginia on September 22, 1864.
He was mustered out on June 24, 1865.
