RIO RANCHO, N.M. Funeral for Lawrence Lee "Bud" Bailey, 87, Rio Rancho, N.M., will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Crews Funeral Home Chapel in Apache, with Elder Ron Orf officiating.

Lawrence Lee "Bud" Bailey passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, in Rio Rancho, N.M., after a long illness.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

He was born May 25, 1923, to Herbert and Hazel Love Bailey near Apache. Lawrence Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as an enlisted man during World War II when he was stationed in England and later as an officer during the Korean Conflict when he was stationed in the Yukon Territory, Canada. After his army service, he attended Oklahoma State University and completed a degree in architectural engineering. He was a registered professional engineer and designed numerous buildings and prestigious homes in Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico. In 1960, he moved his family to Los Alamos, N.M., where he worked as an engineer for the Zia Company. He later worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory until retiring in 1984 to Lake Texoma. In 2000, he and Betty moved to Albuquerque, N.M., to be nearer their three sons. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, watercolor painting, and being an avid OSU Cowboy fan.

He is survived by his three sons: Barry Bailey and companion Joanne Roybal Espanola, Los Alamos, N.M.; Marc Bailey, Los Alamos, N.M.; Randy Bailey and wife, Christina, Rio Rancho, N.M.; a former daughter-in-law, Susan Bailey, Windsor, Colo.; four grandchildren: Jacob Bailey, Matthew Bailey, Michelle Bailey and Sean Bailey; a sister and her husband, Jack and June Myers, Oklahoma City; two brothers and their wives: Stanley and Betty Bailey, Cyril; and Dick and Wilda Bailey, Apache.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Betty Powell Bailey; two sisters: Leatrice Williams and Pat Huber; two brothers: Danny Bailey and Walter Bailey.

As we grieve at his passing, we rejoice in the many ways he touched our lives.
