Mr. Bowers was born Sept. 9, 1951, in Greeneville, and was a son of the late James Davis and Norma Bowers.
He received a doctoral degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.
Mr. Bowers had spent the past 25 years working in public service.
He was "dedicated" to the advancement of higher education in Tennessee. For the past nine years, he served as assistant vice president of Academic Affairs at Northeast State Technical Community College in Blountville.
Survivors include his wife: Patsy Bowers; a daughter: Michelle Black; a son: Logan Rollins; two grandchildren: Julia Black and Josh Black; three sisters: Anna Anderson, Candie Humphries, and Rose-Mary Senter; three brothers: Larry Anderson, Jimmy Davis, and Tracy Humphries; a very special first cousin: Craig Woods; two very special aunts: Carrie Brown and Stella Hamilton; and a very special friend: Billy Mack Barner.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George Davis.
