The second of the ill-fated Hoyt children, James was the third to die, within two weeks of his sister Julie. His death was initially ascribed to SIDS despite his age, but many years later was found to have been homicide. In 1995 his mother was convicted of his death, as well as the murders of his four siblings Eric, Julie, Molly and Noah. The case was the subject of several books, most notably "The Death of Innocents" by Richard Firstman & Jamie Talan.
