OBITUARY published in The Referendum Vol. IV No 28, Shoals, Ind., Thurs. Feb 23, 1899
Mrs. Elizabeth Fields
On Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. we laid to rest in our home cemetery the mortal remains of our mother.
Our mother, the friend next God given every human being--the one to whom all of us turn for every needed help from our earliest infancy to and thr our maturity. No call for aid too trival or too great to receive promt, loving and valuable response.
Mrs. Elizabeth Fields, wife of Joseph Fields, was born to Alex and Sarah green, near Bono, Lawrence county, June 26, 1828. She was married to Joseph Fields March 12, 1848, and was the mother of nine children. The husband, two sons and four daughters being left to mourn their loss.
Mrs. Fields was that best of God's gift--a god woman, a loving wife and mother and an excellent neighbor. No man was permitted to leave her door hungry if she knew it, nor was anyone who came for help turned away empty handed. Her life was ungrdgingly spent in the service of her family and friends. Full of honor as of years she has gladly laid down her burden, feeling that her work on earth was finished. And we who mourn feel that she has entered through the gates into the City and now enjoys the merited rest that shall continue evermore. May God give us all to see and do the right, that in the fullness of time we may all clasp glad hands with not one of the circle absent in the land of Leal.
To Mr. Wm Edward, Delbert Chapman and Marshall Hooper, as well as to other friends and neighbors the thanks of the family are hereby tendered for special service and kindness in our trying time of loss.
