Mr. Thomson was the concert master of the Mobile Symphony and led the Mobile Youth Orchestra for many years.

A student of the violin from age four, he was referred to as a child prodigy by the age of 12. He attended Birmingham Southern College and the Birmingham Conservatory of Music.

He served in the U.S. Navy Band during World War II on the USS South Dakota and the USS Missouri.

In 1944, he married Beverly Mikkelson, of Irene, South Dakota, and they shared one daughter, Linda Jean. Mr. Thomson married Martha Sewell of Birmingham, AL on September 10, 1950, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Harry Thompson, Jr.-- Of Spanish Fort AL, an accomplished area musician, died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Thomas Hospital. Born in Sumatra to Harry Thompson, Sr., and Helen 'Nellie' Hunter Thompson, both deceased, of Birmingham, AL, on November 8, 1920, he was a student of the violin from age four and referred to as a child prodigy by the age of 12. In Birmingham, where he grew up, he attended Birmingham Southern College and the Birmingham Conservatory of Music. He served in the U.S. Navy Band during World War II. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Kramer of Hill City, SD; three grandchildren, Kari Kramer Ayala (Alex) of New Orleans, LA; Christopher Kramer (Lori) of Santa Fe, NM; and Brett Kramer (Allyson) of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, James Thompson (Joyce) of Birmingham, AL; and David Thompson (Jean) of Gulf Shores, AL; one sister, Helen Thompson Burney (Robert) of Birmingham, AL; and many cousins including Ken and Carla Thompson of Flint, MI; and very special friends, Ted and Louise Donley and their daughter, Lisa of Daphne, AL. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Jubilee Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church.
